The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is an integrated university that offers a broader range of options than any single college or university can.
As the only university based in the Highlands and Islands, we are part of a new breed of tertiary institutions, the only one in Scotland and one of only a few in Europe. We offer flexible and supported learning from access level to PhD, which suits more people at more levels for more reasons.
We have 31,000 students at the heart of what we do and our greatest strength is the diversity and flexibility of our partnership, which empowers us to deliver more. What makes us different
UHI received its highest-ever ranking for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2022 results, coming 4th in Scotland – behind only Aberdeen, St Andrews and Robert Gordon universities, and ranking higher than the remaining 14 Scottish universities.
We received a score of 95% student satisfaction in the 2022 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, the highest rating of any Scottish university, ranking us fourth in the UK out of the 91 participating institutions.
Research is undertaken across the university and we are developing a strong reputation in a range of areas, supported by exceptional results in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework exercise, in which over two-thirds of UHI research submitted for review achieved the top two grades: 4* (world-leading) and 3* (internationally excellent).
